Pakistan’s formidable pacer, Shoaib Akhtar is now emerging as a viral sensation, after being one of the lively personalities in cricket. His YouTube channel, which launches just 3 months back has been all the rage now, after his brief hiatus and takes a major lead on the video portal, beating Pewdiepie in the process.

Shoaib Akhtar, Pak’s former cricketer was one of the fastest bowlers in international cricket and kept the batsmen on their toes throughout his career from 1997-2011. He made Pakistan reach the 1999 World Cup finals and has now turned himself into a social media star, giving reviews of Pakistan’s matches on YouTube through his own channel.

Shoaib’s channel has been dedicated to covering the ICC World Cup 2019 and it recently got operative again after being inactive for three months. His channel has gained more than 9.8 lakh subscribers, if you see the stats of the past one month, especially during the World Cup period. In this process, Akhtar has had a major lead on YouTube, beating Pewdiepie in gaining subscribers.

Akhtar’s videos have received 1.5-2 million views on an average. His growing fan-base in the past one month is more than the famous YouTuber Pewdiepie’s, who crossed about 6.5 lakh new subscriptions in the same period. Shoaib Akhtar’s fame and recognition in cricket has made him one of the most followed cricketers on YouTube.

His most popular video is the one where Pak lost to India on 16th June, gained 9 million views at a stretch! The Indian team defeated the Pakistani team by 89 runs (DLS method) and Akhtar delved deep into the poor outing of the team. Shortly after, he thanked his fan base all over after his channel reached the 1 million subscriber mark. Akhtar, in his video review, targeted the team’s bowlers, especially Hasan Ali for whom he said, “Hasan goes to Wagah Border and jumps around to show off his energy but why can he not display the same energy for Pakistan in the World Cup?”

Shoaib Akhtar showed his hopes for Pak to reach the semi-finals after they beat South Africa at Lord’s. But in the light of recent events, especially the India vs England clash, Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the last four stage of the tournament are highly unlikely.
