T20 Premier League Winners List From 2008 to 2022

For all the cricket lovers, the T20 Indian Premier League is like a national festival. The league was formed in 2008 and today, it ranks as the best Twenty 20 league in the world. The T20 Premier League is generally played from March to May every year. Both Indian and foreign cricketers participate in a series representing 8 to 10 Indian states and cities. 

In this blog, we shall have a look at the IPL Cup winners list in all these 15 years. 

T20 Premier League Winners from 2008 to 2022 

2022 – Gujarat Titans

The latest is Gujarat Titans in T20 Indian Premier League winners list all season who clinched the trophy defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets . Gujarat Titans chased the target of 131 runs in just 18.1 overs. Hardik Pandya, the captain of Gujarat Titans won the Man of the match award for taking 3 wickets with 17 runs in his four overs and following it with a batting of 34 runs in 30 balls.

2021 – Chennai Super Kings

In 2021, CSK won for the 4th time by 27 runs defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). CSK set a high target of 192 runs for KKR to chase. Faf du Plessis from CSK won the title of Man of the match for scoring 86 runs from 59 balls. Shardul Thakur from CSK was the highest wicket taker taking 3 wickets for 38 runs.

2020 – Mumbai Indians

In 2020, MI won for the 5th and record time defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by 5 wickets. Trent Boult from MI won the title of Man of the match for taking 3 wickets in 4 overs. MI also won Paytm Fair Play Award in this particular year. Ishan Kishan scored the most runs for Mumbai Indians and Kagiso Rabada from DC earned the purple cap.

2019 – Mumbai Indians

In 2019, Mumbai Indians won for the 4th time by  defeating CSK 1 run for the third time in the IPL final. Jasprit Bumrah from MI won the title of Man of the match for taking 2 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs. The top performers were CSK’s Deepak Chahar and Shane Watson. 

2018 – Chennai Super Kings

In 2018, CSK also won for the third time by 8 wickets defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). CSK was able to chase the huge target of 178 runs. Shane Watson from CSK won the title of man of the match for his unbeatable innings of 117 runs in just 57 balls. The top performers were the bowlers of CSK.

2017 – Mumbai Indians

In 2017, MI won for the 3rd time by 1 run defeating Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). Krunal Pandya from Mumbai Indians won the title of Man of the match for his innings of 47 runs. Mumbai Indians had made only 129 runs in its opening innings and were still able to defeat RPS. 

2016 – Sunrisers Hyderabad

In 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) stepped into the IPL Winners list  defeating RCB  by 8 runs under the captaincy of David Warner and set a high chase of 208 runs for RCB. Ben Cutting from SH won the title of Man of the match by making 69 runs in 38 balls and also took 2 wickets. The top performer remained Virat Kohli from RCB and won the orange cap. 

2015 – Mumbai Indians

In 2015, Mumbai Indians (MI) again won by 41 runs defeating CSK for the second time. The captain of MI, Rohit Sharma won the Man of the Match title for making 50 runs in 26 balls. Dwayne Bravo of CSK won the purple cap for the leading wicket-taker. The top performers of MI were Simmons, Ambati Rayadu, Mallinga and Kieron Pollard.

2014 – Kolkata Knight Riders

In 2014, KKR won by 3 wickets defeating Kings XI Punjab, now known as Punjab Kings (PBKS). KKR was the only team like CSK who had won the title more than once. KKR’s Robin Uthappa won the orange cap for scoring 660 runs in 16 innings. Manish Pandey from KKR scored a brilliant 94 runs from 50 balls to chase a huge total of 199 runs and won the man of the match title. 

2013 – Mumbai Indians

In the 5th season of the IPL, Mumbai Indians came into the IPL Winners list by 23 runs defeating CSK under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. MI’s batsman Kieron Pollard was awarded as Man of the match for his unbeaten innings of 60 runs in 32 balls. CSK had to chase the target of 148 runs. The top performers were Lasith Malinga, Mitchell Johnson and Ambati Rayadu.

2012 – Kolkata Knight Riders

In the 4th season, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured in the IPL winners list by 5 wickets defeating CSK, former champions for the last couple of years. KKR had chased the high score of 190 runs with the great performance of Mavindra Bisla who made 89 runs in just 48 balls and therefore, was awarded man of the match. The top performer was CSK’s Suresh Raina who made 73 runs in 38 balls.

2011 – Chennai Super Kings

Again in 2011 under the captaincy of captain cool, CSK topped the IPL cup winners list defeating RCB by 58 runs. Murali Vijay of CSK performed a stunning knock of 95 runs to become the Man of the match. The top performers were batsman Hussey and Murali Vijay with an impressive 159 run opening partnership. CSK bowler Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets for 16 runs of RCB. 

2010 – Chennai Super Kings

In 2010, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the IPL winners by 22 runs defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The Man of the match title was awarded to Suresh Raina of CSK with a knock of 57 runs not out from 35 balls and taking one wicket. The top performer was MI bowler Dilhara Fernando who took two wickets for 23 runs of CSK.

2009 – Deccan Chargers

In the 2009 IPL final match, Deccan Chargers (DC), now known as Sunrisers Hyderabad, became the IPL winners by defeating Royal Challengers by 6 runs under the captaincy of Adam Gilchrist who was also the player of the series. The Man of the match title was awarded to Anil Kumble of RR by taking four wickets in 16 runs of DC. Herschelle Gibbs was the top scorer of DC with batting of 53 runs. 

2008  – Rajasthan Royals

In the first year of the T20 Premier League, Rajasthan Royals (RR) became the IPL winners defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 3 wickets. Shane Warne, the captain of RR was awarded as the player of the season. Yusuf Pathan became Man of the match for taking 3 wickets of CSK and scoring 56 runs out of 39 balls. Bowler Sohail Tanvir of RR also won the IPL’s Purple Cap.

Mumbai Indians (MI) topped the IPL winner list all season, having won the IPL tournament five times across 15 seasons. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ranks the second-best team to have lifted the IPL trophy four times.
