The Sunrisers Hyderabad might have been eliminated from the IPL last night after DC heroics by Rishabh Pant & Prithvi Shaw, but let’s not take away the amount of sheer determination & brilliance the team had shown this time around. Their individual player performance in David Warner, Johnny Bairstow, Manish Pandey & the player in view- Khaleel Ahmed was way beyond outstanding. Khaleel Ahmed took three 3 wicket hauls on a trot against Kings XI, Mumbai Indians & Royal Challengers Bangalore between 30th April to 5th May. Even in the previous eliminator against DC, he picked up 2 crucial wickets that of the dangerous Prithvi Shaw and Captain Shreyas Iyer.

Let’s take a look at his season’s stats:

Matches Balls Runs WKTS BBM Ave Econ
9 209 287 19 3/30 15.10 8.23

Khaleel Ahmed, interestingly, wasn’t being pushed to play initially in the playing 11 this year. Last year, he got only 1 game to play in where he bowled 3 overs and went wicketless giving away 38 runs.

This year he’s come out with flying colors picking a total of 19 wickets with a career best of 3/30. Let’s take a look at his three times back to back 3 wicket hauls.

He picked up the Universe Boss Chris Gayle, the dangerous Nicholas Pooran & Punjab’s main man KL Rahul who scored a vital 79 that shifted the game a tad bit towards KXIP’s favor. All the three catches were stunners in Manish Pandey, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and a full stretch dive by Captain Williamson.

Against the Mumbai Indians, a match that ended in a Super Over victory, Khaleel Ahmed managed to pick the three biggies in Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav & Kieron Pollard. Despite being quite expensive, he managed to take these 3 crucial wickets that ultimately derailed the MI innings

In a losing cause that left SRH hanging for the playoffs, Ahmed took 3 crucial wickets in Captain Kohli, the dangerous looking Gurkeerat & Washington Sundar on a golden duck. Again, he might not be the most economical but surely delivers with the bowl.

In totality, Khaleel has come up with 5 3-wicket hauls this season, the other 2 came against the Delhi Capitals & Kolkata Knight Riders. Even though he’s not in India’s WC squad he’s going as a net practice bowler. Let’s hope Khaleel comes out to be one of the best finds in Indian Cricket hereafter.
