Kings XI Punjab, also known as Punjab Kings (PBKS), is a franchise cricket team representing the city of Mohali, Punjab, in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The group was founded in 2008 and has played in every season of the IPL since its inception. Punjab Kings has yet to win the IPL title, with their best performance coming in 2014 when they reached the final but were defeated by the Kolkata Knight Riders. The team was powered by some explosive batting from the top order. Today, we will look at PBKS highest scores in IPL.

Big hitters like Virender Sehwag, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Gayle, and David Miller (and more recently, KL Rahul) have all played for PKBS, so the team is no stranger to destroying other teams with a ferocious exhibition of batting power.

232/2 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (2011)

Punjab Kings’ home stadium of Dharamsala has produced the highest score against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Adam Gilchrist, the team’s captain, had no qualms about batting first after winning the toss, and he immediately took the lead with an incredible 106 off just 55 balls. 

Shaun Marsh provided him with strong assistance as Punjab amassed an incredible total of 232 for the loss of just two wickets. An outstanding bowling performance skittled Bangalore out for 121 and sealed a 111-run victory.

231/4 against Chennai Super Kings (2014)

At Cuttack against Chennai Super Kings, they are listed at number two on this list of PBKS’s highest team totals in IPL games. Glenn Maxwell, was at his homicidal best as he hammered 90 off only 38 balls with six fours and eight sixes, making Chennai captain MS Dhoni regret his choice to put Punjab into bat.  Ultimately, CSK lost the game by 44 runs.

230/3 against Mumbai Indians (2017)

230/3 against Mumbai Indians comes 3rd on the list of PKBS high scores. On their own home field, it was at the expense of the unlucky Mumbai Indians. No batsman for Punjab reached three figures, but an unlikely source came very close: Wriddhiman Saha top-scored with 93, while captain Glenn Maxwell added a quick-fire 47 off 21 balls. Lendl Simmons at the top and Kieron Pollard lower down in the order delivered some ferocious hits in reply, making it a tight contest, but the Punjab spinners were able to secure a tense 7-run victory.

226/6 against Chennai Super Kings (2014)

The following entry on this list of the PBKS Highest Scores in IPL history comes against Chennai Super Kings, which is six years after the previous entry. This time, it’s Virender Sehwag who ignites the show with a staggering 122 off just 58 balls. Punjab reach 226 in the first innings with Sehwag’s century, and the total proved to be too much for the men in yellow, and Punjab prevailed by a narrow margin of 24 runs.

223/2 against Rajasthan Royals (2020)

In one of the most exciting games in IPL history against Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings were defeated by a score of four wickets after compiling the best run chase in IPL history. Kings XI Punjab played outstandingly with the bat, scoring 223-2 from their 20 overs. In response, Samson batted brilliantly with Royals captain Smith (50), putting together an 81-run second-wicket stand as they sprinted to 100-1 from nine overs and eventually won the game by four wickets.

221/3 against Rajasthan Royals (2008)

The sixth on this list of the highest scores by PBKS in IPL history came against Rajasthan Royals. Shaun Marsh showed the squad how valuable he was with a scorching 115 off just 69 balls. In the first innings, Punjab pounded their way to 221/3, aided by marquee player Yuvraj Singh (49 off 16 with 6 sixes!). Despite the Royals’ best efforts, the Punjab spinners ensured a comfortable 41-run victory by never letting them escape.

221/6 against Rajasthan Royals (2021)

Punjab’s 221/6 against Rajasthan Royals in 2021 ranks 7th on PBKS Highest Scores in IPL history. KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda’s superb stroke play forced the Rajasthan Royals spinners to submit, helping the Punjab Kings advance to an impressive 221 for 6 in the IPL.  Sanju Samson‘s 119 runs in response were in vain, as RR lost the game by 4 runs in a thrilling match.

214/8 against Kolkata Knight Riders (2018)

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Punjab Kings by 31 runs with two strong batting performances from Sunil Narine and captain Dinesh Karthik. In 20 overs, Punjab could only score 214/8 runs. Karthik and Narine each contributed to KKR’s massive total of 245/6 in the allotted 20 overs.

211/4 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (2014)

At Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium, PBKS successfully chased down 206 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH didn’t get off to a good start. Finch was defeated by Shivam Sharma for 30 runs before the openers piled on 65. Dhawan went away shortly after, having turned 45. For Kings XI, David Miller and George Bailey saw the job through to completion while maintaining perfect scores of 24 and 35, respectively.

209/9 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (2022)

The last one on the list is against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Brabourne in 2022. PBKS scored a massive 209 runs after batting first, thanks to half centuries from Bairstow (66) and Livingstone (70) in quick succession. In response, none of the RCB batter reached a 40 mark and lost the game by 54 runs.

Despite not having won the IPL title yet, the team has consistently produced some outstanding performances and memorable moments. Some of PBKS highest scores in IPL history indicate that they do have batting power, but their major weakness is their bowling department. They need to find the balance between both departments, which they are expected to do, and fight to clinch the championship title.
