Domestic Cricket Career of Jos Buttler:

Before making it to the senior team, Buttler has played a lot for Somerset. He represented the country in Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17; hence has been an integral part of teams in almost every age group. Buttler also featured in King’s College’s cricket team as he graduated from this college. He scored 447 runs at an average of 49.66 in 2006 for them. His innings of unbeaten 227 runs was the highlight of his school’s cricket career and also led him to become the captain of the King’s in the 2008 season.

He made his debut for Somerset in 2009 as a replacement for the injured Justin Langer. He was able to save his place in the team for the pro 40 match against Hampshire even though he scored just 30 runs. After spending quite some time in Somerset, Buttler decided to move to Lancashire in September 2013.

International Cricket Career of Jos Buttler:

ODI Career

Buttler made his ODI debut in 2012 in Dubai against Pakistan . His inclusion was justified in the England ODI squad when England was tottering at 64/3 and Buttler joined teammate Craig Kieswetter and put up a display of his batting abilities. This innings established him as a key player in the English squad.

Test Career

During the ongoing series in 2014 against the Indian National Cricket team , Buttler got his first test call for the England squad. He made his test debut on July 27, 2014, against India and has been performing consistently for his team in the 50 test matches that he has played so far.

T2OI Career

Buttler got his maiden international call when he was named in the England squad in September 2011. He made his debut as a batsman and not as a wicketkeeper. Buttler has been a T20 specialist and an asset for the team ever since his debut.

Jos Buttler’s IPL Career:

Despite being one of the most dangerous batsmen in world cricket, Jos Buttler needed to sit tight for his IPL debut, basically because of the time limit that was forced on English cricketers. When that was lifted from the 2016 season onwards, Buttler was bought at a decent cost by the Mumbai Indians. He shuffled between opening and batting in the middle-order, getting a couple of starts without truly displaying his potential. The 2017 season was business as usual for Buttler as he was utilized as a floater by the MI franchise. It was apparent that the competition hadn't seen the best of him, similar to his international cricket stint.

The transition to Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 auctions gave Buttler’s IPL career a new lease of life, who, in any case, began as a middle-order batsman for the franchise, similar to his MI days. With Jaipur’s surfaces not as favourable for batting as the ones in Mumbai, his battles against the ball were more difficult than before. A late move in the season to advance Buttler as an opener created quick outcomes, as he thrashed five back to back fifties to drive the Royals into a respectable position. From that point forward, he's essentially batted as an opener in T20 cricket and dominated in the BBL for the Sydney Thunder too.

Buttler’s IPL stint in 2019 saw him score three half-centuries for the Royals in eight innings before heading back home to get ready for the World Cup. Sadly, Buttler didn't get any significant help from other batsmen, his efforts gone in vain as Rajasthan had an average season.

World Cup - Through the years:

It was Buttler's wicket that set off England’s collapse against Bangladesh in the 2015 World Cup, which in the end resulted in England's humiliating exit from the World Cup. His half-century against the Asian side went futile as England lost its last four wickets for just 22 runs. Before his 65 against Bangladesh, Buttler played a knock of 19-ball 39 against Sri Lanka . This, however, was another knock that came in a losing match. The wicket-keeper batsman was under-utilized and England did not make it to the knockout stages.

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain put Buttler in the same category as Virat Kohli , AB de Villiers,

MS Dhoni, and Viv Richards , when Jos Buttler smashed England's second quickest ODI century half a month before the 2019 World Cup against Pakistan. Buttler has the ability to lead his team to victory single-handedly and can put even the best bowling attacks to shame with his stroke-play. Even though England has many incredible batsmen in their squad, Buttler is their X-factor as he can make every impossible situation possible. Since the last World Cup, Buttler averages 50.02 in the ODIs and has a strike rate of 124.84 - which involves 7 centuries and 11 half-centuries. Those numbers combined with his consistency and pinch-hitting will give nightmares to any bowler in the opposing camp.
