Ravindra Jadeja’s International Career

Ravindra Jadeja finally got the attention of the national selectors with his all-around performance in the 2008–2009 Ranji Trophy. He secured 42 wickets and scored 739 runs in the tournament. He was, therefore, picked for the ODI series in Sri Lanka.

He made his debut on 8 February 2009 in the final match of the series. Although, he made a knock of 60* runs, unfortunately, India lost the game.

He suffered a setback in the 2009 World Twenty20 for his performance in a fast-paced match between India and England, which ended in India's defeat. As a result, he became the target of criticism from fans.

However, things took a turn for him in late 2009 when the then-all-rounder Yusuf Pathan underwent a loss in form. As a result, Ravindra Jadeja took his place at No. 7 in the ODI squad.

He did not let down the selectors and became the Man of the Match by scalping four wickets in the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka in Cuttack on 21 December 2009. His best bowling was 4–32 till that date.

He exhibited splendid performance against various teams in every major tournament until his average performance in the 2015 Cricket T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and poor performance in the following ODI series in Bangladesh. As a result, selectors dropped him from the team.

Yet, he did not give up despite the upsetting criticism of his performance and soon won over the critics with his striking comeback in the 2015-16 Ranji season. During the Ranji tournament, he bagged 38 wickets and made 215 runs in 4 games.

His spectacular performance won the hearts of everyone. As a result, he became a part of the Indian test squad for the 2015 South Africa tour of India. As expected, he played a key role and helped his team to achieve a series victory (3-0) by bagging 23 wickets.

He also scored 109 runs in the four games. As a result, his batting played a crucial role in the lower order. This performance, as intended, did not go unnoticed and led to him becoming part of the India tour of Australia for limited-over matches. The tournament comprised 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

Since then, he went on to exhibit marvelous performances and soon became known as “Sir Jadeja.” In his cricket career to date, he has scored a total of 2523 runs at an average of 36.57 and a strike rate of 59.5 in the test format. Moreover, he has scored 2447 runs at an average of 32.63 and a strike rate of 86.53 in the ODI format.

His performance in the T20Is is no less than extraordinary as well. He scored 457 runs at an average of 24.05 with a strike rate of 124.52 in the fastest format of the game.

While his role as a batsman has been phenomenal, Ravindra Jadeja has played a critical role as a spin bowler for the team. He has bagged 242 wickets with an economy rate of 2.43 at an average of 24.71 in the Test format.

Furthermore, the all rounder has picked 189 wickets with an economy rate of 4.92 at an average of 37.37 in the ODI format. To top it all, he scalped 51 wickets at an average of 28.49 with an economy rate of 7.05 in the Twenty20 format.

He still has a lot of cricket left in him despite “RJ” being 34 years old and we cannot wait to see him make every cricket fan around the world proud with his performance.
