Moreover, Men In Orange will be looking to qualify to the playoffs and then securing their second title, especially with a bankable defence at their side. That being said, let’s take a look at the team’s details:

They are often lauded as the most successful team in the history of the competition after they went on to reach their third final in three years in 2016.

  • Even though U Mumba started the Pro Kabaddi League with aplomb, the end of their first season didn't benefit their performance.
  • In the first season, U Mumba stats show that they were in second place in the leaderboard after 14 games, but in the second season, they racked up 60 points after 14 games with an impressive ten-point lead over their nearest rivals.
  • The third season was very underwhelming for the franchise as it failed to reach the play-off. U Mumba stats show that they scored a meagre 42 points off 14 matches.
  • What followed was a period of stagnation for the U Mumba team, and it was only in season six and seven of the league, where the U Mumba Team & Players exhibited a massive turnaround and reached the playoffs again.
  • Fazel Atrachali was inspiring, to say the least, in the rejuvenated seasons.
  • In the season 8 of the league under the captaincy of Atrachali, the Men In Orange once again failed to reach the playoffs and ranked 10th in the points table with only seven wins out of 22 matches.

U Mumba Team & Players

U Mumba has always boasted an enviable line-up that boasts some of the finest players of the league. However, this lineup is currently reduced to a strong defence, which can be easily broken into, especially since they have let go of in-form player Fazel Atrachali, who has been nothing short of impressive. The fans, critics and almost everyone is looking forward to seeing how the new coach Anil Chaprana is able to utilise the squad to win the team’s second league title.

Best U Mumba Players

This season marks the return of various players, especially defenders, to U Mumba. The 2015 champions of the Pro Kabaddi League will be looking for a fortune change, especially under their new captain Surinder Singh.

In conclusion the team has multiple players, both new and experienced, who can be Mumba’s best bet to win the PKL season 9. Let’s look at the best players of U Mumba to gain a better insight on their squad:

  • Guman Singh: Guman is perhaps the only raider in U Mumba with 100 raid points. With an average raid of 4.55 per match, it will be interesting to see how the new coach utilises the talent of Singh.
  • Surinder Singh: The newly appointed captain and the defender of U Mumba is a countable defender for the team. With 205 points, 8 super tackles and 7 high 5s, Surinder will definitely be looking to make his mark and help the team win the league title.
  • Rinku: The defender for the Right corner, Rinku has a total of 60 tackle points, 7 super tackles and four high 5s will prove to be a countable defender for the team as well.
  • Rahul Sethpal: The right corner defender, Rahul Sethpal has scored 34 tackle points in just 18 matches. It will be interesting to see his combination with Rinku and how well they can bring scores for the Men In Orange.

U Mumba Strengths and Weaknesses

Strength of U Mumba Team

The Men In Orange will be strongly depending on their defence, this season. The right-corner defenders Rinku Sharma, Kiran, Surinder Singh, Harendra Kumar and Vishal Mane are the big time defenders who can collectively save the points and reduce the pressure from the young and energetic raiders.

While there are no big names remaining in the team, especially after the team let go of former skipper Fazal Atrachali, the team does witness the return of some major players that can help them qualify for the playoffs at the very least. It will be interesting to see how Surinder and Mane can help the team to save the scores, especially with their experience.

Weakness of U Mumba Team

While the team’s defence has emerged to be its strong suit, its raiding department seems to be one of the major hold ups for winning the league title. The entire team of raiders have a youthful spirit but are eager to perform and gain experience in the PKL.

With its top raider, Guman Singh, scoring only 100 points till now, it will be interesting to see how the team will perform in the raiding department. Aside from Guman Singh, Ashish Narwal is another youngster, who will be seen in a prominent role. It will be interesting to see how Anil Chaprana uses the spirited young raiders to team’s maximum advantage.

  • They also have one of the least number all-outs conceded records with 118, with only Telugu Titans outperforming them in this area.
  • The U Mumba team also boasts the meanest defences of the league. In their 107 matches, they have a staggering high of 1048 tackles.

  • The U Mumba team also has the most impressive win percentage from the repertoire of teams that were founded in 2014. Their win percentage stands at 63.5%. Only the Gujarat based franchise that was founded in 2017 has a better win percentage.

  • The U Mumba team has the second-highest most successful tackles (1458) and the highest average of successful team tackles per-match (9.53) in the history of PKL.

U Mumba FAQs

The Pro Kabaddi Mumbai team goes by the name U Mumba. It is owned by Ronnie Screwvala, coached by Anil Chaprana and captained by Surinder Singh. Watch out for the strong and dependable defence of the U-Mumba which is capable of nullifying any raiding attack of the opponent.

There are chances that U Mumba might qualify, but it depends on the U Mumba Team & Players to perform as a squad. The new coach for U Mumba, Anil Chaprana is very experienced, especially in strategizing the raids. They have a strong defence and a young raiding department that can be moulded into any strategy as seen fit by the new coach.

The U Mumba team has done it before, and with a bankable defence, easy to mould raiding department and an experienced coach, there is no reason as to why the U Mumba team and the U Mumba coach cannot achieve this feat again.

In the seasons that U Mumba had Mohit in their team, he was able to rack up 123 tackle points for the team.

U Mumba Kabaddi Story: The Conclusion

The PKL has evolved, and in order for the U Mumba Team & Players to stay relevant, the U Mumba squad will have to evolve as well.
