The 4th Ashes test kicked off yesterday and as expected, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith rose up to the occasion. After the quick departure of the openers, Steve and Marnus took charge and went on to form a strong partnership, till Overton’s fine delivery took a ruffle to send Marnus back to the pavilion. 

Marnus had big shoes to fill in and he shouldered the responsibility of stabilizing the innings rather impressively in the third test. He deserved every bit of a chance to be part of the playing XI in the 4th test and boy did he grab the opportunity with both hands. He got his chance and the world saw what wonders he could do alongside the magician Steve Smith, who just regained his Numero Uno position in the test batsman rankings. 

Going by the kind of shots that Labuschagne and Smith played, we are surely in for a treat for the remainder of the Ashes series, that is if the rain doesn’t deprive us of watching the Yin and Yang of the current Australian batting line-up weave their magic. Marnus now has four back-to-back half-centuries and with Smith by his side, guiding him and making him comfortable at the crease, that century is not far off. Smith is on a different level altogether. Edging past Virat Kohli will surely add to his confidence and possibly could go down in history as the biggest comeback ever if he continues to play like the way he is.
