The series went insanely alive as West Indies went wild against India at Thiruvananthapuram last night. Led by Lendl Simmons, the Caribbeans chased the total of 170/7 with ease. Shivam Dube starred from India while he was promoted up the order and the tall all-rounder went berserk against Pollard taking the West Indies Captain for 26 in his over. All said and done, it was West Indies that were on the day, a much better side.
India’s concern seems to be there fielding where they have been dropping a few dollies. Washington Sundar has dropped 3 catches in 2 T20s so far. Apart from Kohli’s valiant effort to dismiss Hetmyer, the Indian fielding has been pretty ordinary. So ordinary that even our Baazigar Yuvraj Singh took to twitter to express his disappointment about the ongoing match:
“India very poor on the field today ! Young guns reacting a bit late on the ball! Too much cricket ? ? Let’s get these runs come on lads”
We just cannot agree more to what Yuvi said. India has been butter fingers quite literally in the series.
India v/s West Indies is now 1-1 and this takes us to the next T20 international at the home of cricket in India: The Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The match will be a decider as to who will grab the series title because both India and the Caribbeans have had their moments in the tournament so far. Let’s get to the match preview of the 3rd T20 that goes live on Wednesday.
Pitch & Conditions
The Wankhede Stadium boasts of pace and bounce and there’s not much for the spinners. Looking by the course of the series, we might as well see Mohammad Shami get into the side for Washington Sundar. The conditions in Mumbai are always on the humid side but considering the season it will definitely help bowlers to get the bowl moving around.
The side winning the toss would definitely prefer chasing. 6 out of the last 7 T20 internationals that happened this year have been won by the team batting second. This, in itself explains the fact there are hardly any chances of the team batting first and ending up winning. India will win the toss, will put in the West Indies to bat. Shami will pluck out Lewis’ wicket early and Simmons will continue from where he left off in the 2nd T20. West Indies will lose a few quick wickets early on but Pollard being Mumbai’s boy will take it from their and post 170 odd runs on the board. India will chase down where the top 3 will be more than enough to lead the chase. India will seal the series with a win.
Alright, maybe I’m just being way too optimistic, add a few drop chances and the game can go either way. Also, the crowds would love to see Samson keep the wickets because given the chance, Pant hasn’t been able to convert his starts. Pandey can get in for Iyer following the 2 consistent failures of the latter batsman.
India’s Playing 11: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey, Sanju Samson/Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Ravi Jadeja, Mohd Shami, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal & Bhuvneshwar Kumar
West Indies’ Playing 11: Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Nicholas Pooran, Shemron Hetmyer, Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Kesrick Williams, K Pierre & Sheldon Cottrell.
