The most awaited good news of the season is here as the fantasy cricket enthusiasts are going gaga over the fact that their lovable Indian T20 fantasy league is back. As per the latest updates are reports from the BCCI, the IPL fantasy league is all set to make a return on September 19 with the final scheduled to take place on November 8. The entire tournament has been slated to be played in the UAE in a 51-day window.

While 2020 might not have been the best year for fantasy cricket enthusiasts with many major tournaments being postponed or canceled, the return of the IPL is like a breath of fresh air. The cash-rich league had it not happened this year would have made the BCCI losses of over 4000 crores. The decision to bring back the IPL has been taken only after the ICC decided not to host the T20 World Cup this year due to location restrictions during the pandemic.

“With a good 51-day window, it will be easier to hold 60 matches with comparatively less number of doubleheaders”, a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying. “IPL in all likelihood will begin on September 19(Saturday) and the finale will be held on November 8.” The BCCI has also informed the franchises well in advance and the teams will leave for the UAE by August 20. This will help them in fulfilling the quarantine rules so that the Indian players have enough time to advance for the India vs Australia test series that begins in December.

The Indian Cricket Team will have to follow the 14-day quarantine rule when they visit Australia. Had the IPL not been decided to begin 1 week in advance, the tour would have been compromised and things would have gone haywire. The dates have been decided to keep the broadcasters, dates, and international players’ availability too at the same time. The England vs Australia series will end on September 15 which will raise a few concerns but the logistics team has taken measures to curtail the problem. “Players will fly directly to Dubai from their tours as they end.”

Chances are that commentators, franchise owners might be commentating and cheering respectively from their homes as the tournament is set to be slated in empty stadiums and it is to be made sure that none of the strict quarantine protocols are compromised. Apart from the IPL teams, the BCCI will also be heading to Dubai, Sharjah & Abu Dhabi to keep a check on the preparations that have to be in full swing. Even if the UAE airlines do not get a red signal the entire logistics will be dependent on chartered planes.

Sourav Ganguly, current BCCI President, earlier this year had predicted that anyhow, he will make the Indian Premier League happen in a full-fledged manner. While the T20 world cup might have to bite the COVID-19 dust, the Indian Premier fantasy league has definitely overpowered the pandemic conditions. Fans and sports enthusiasts all over the world are very excited to finally see their favorite players have a go at each other in the biggest fantasy cricket leagues in the world. We hope to see a safe, well-managed, and the usual pomp & showy IPL in a slightly different way.
