The Indian T20 Premier League 2022, also identified under the sponsored name Tata Indian T20 Premier League 2022, is set to launch its 15th edition. The 1st season was conceived by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The Indian T20 Premier League, abiding by the group stage and playoffs rounds, is set to commence its mega auction from the second week of February.
This season will commence with an inclusion of two fresh franchises acquiring the states of Ahmedabad and Lucknow. Mega Auction to Begin from 12th February
As per the official note, the mega auction for Indian T20 Premier League 2022 will be hosted in Bengaluru from 12th-13th February, 2022.
Recent media reports state that the BCCI has already declared the list of players who will be displayed for bidding on the ascertained mega auction dates by the listed franchises. The council has registered the names of around 1,214 players signifying a division of 896 India-based players and 318 overseas players.
The report further added that the final list of players reflects a composition of: 270 capped players, 903 uncapped players, and 41 associate players selected from the 10 entitled countries.

Prolific players from across the world have been added in the final list of the 2-day auction for the Indian T20 Premier League, 2022. Around 59 players from Australia, 48 players from South Africa and 41 players from West Indies have already been sanctioned for the grand auction. International players from the United States, Nepal, Ireland and Zimbabwe have also penned down their names for the upcoming auction day.
Overlapping of Events
The dates proclaimed for the grand Indian T20 Premier League 2022 auction were in a clash with the upcoming One-day Internationals between India and West Indies. On 23rd December, 2021, the BCCI finalised these dates and asserted the franchises adhere to the same. As per the premeditated schedule, India is now set to host an ODI series for the Sri Lankan national team, followed by a circumscribed-overs cricket tour for the West Indies squad led by Kieron Pollard-led West Indies.
After rounds of deliberation with Brajesh Patel, IPL chairman, the dates and venues for the Indian T20 Premier League 2022 auction have been locked. Patel corroborated that the Tata Group, replacing the China-based mobile manufacturer Vivo, will be the authorised sponsor for the forthcoming Indian T20 Premier League 2022.
An Extension
The 15th edition of the Indian T20 Premier League 2022, is set to embark on a new note with the revelation of two additional teams in the professional tournament. The Lucknow and the Ahmedabad franchises have been added to the 10-team segment for the Indian T20 Premier League 2022.
The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group acquired the Lucknow franchise with an elephantine bid of INR 7,090 crore, while CVC Capital was successful in the acquisition of the Ahmedabad franchise with INR 5,625 crore.
According to the reports, around 33 players have already been selected by the franchises before the mega auction day. This includes 8 teams who have kept hold of 27 players and 3 more players retained by the newly established franchises. Lucknow’s franchise with a team name of ‘Lucknow Super Giants’ have chosen KL Rahul as the captain, overseas players Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi. The Ahmedabad franchise chose Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill for the Indian T20 Premier League 2022.
Indian T20 Premier League 2022 Venues Yet to be Revealed
The BCCI is yet to address the final stance on the venues for the upcoming Indian T20 Premier League, 2022. Due to the prevalent 3rd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the governing body is assessing routes to earmark the venues. The body is in constant touch with the authorities and stakeholders; as such, in cognizance of the situation, it will reassess the pandemic situation in March to confirm the Indian T20 Premier League venues.
As quoted in India Today, a digital media platform, “BCCI will see if caseload will drop or not and if it doesn’t, then the board will have to create a cluster where there are 4 or 5 stadiums and no air travel is required.”
Official Players List Announced: 590 Shortlisted for the Mega Auction
The administrative body has released the player’s list for the upcoming mega auction for its 15th edition. The list comprised 590 players in all, out of which 228 were capped players, 355 uncapped players while 7 players were chosen from the associate countries.
Several prolific players from India have been registered for the auction day, leading to a huge wave of terrific cricketers to bid from. Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Mohammed Shami, Ishan Kishan, Suresh Raina, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma are the players included for the mega auction.
David Warner, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Pat Cummins, Jason Holder, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, Shakib Al Hasan and Dwayne Bravo are some of the highly acclaimed international players bringing in much excitement for the Indian T20 Premier League 2022.
